General Public - G Job Duties The Department of Labor and Industry
(DOLI) is seeking two highly motivated and skilled professionals to
work as a Boiler Compliance Safety Officer in the Division of
Boiler and Pressure Vessel Safety. The office locations of these
positions will be determined based on Agency need and preference.
The Division of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Safety protects human
life, property, and infrastructure by seeking compliance with the
Virginia Boiler and Pressure Vessel Safety Act and regulations
regarding the installation, certification, safe operation,
maintenance, and repairs of industrial boilers and pressure
vessels. The Boiler Compliance Safety Officer is responsible for
conducting quality assurance and auditing of inspection reports,
providing compliance assistance to the regulated community,
performing selective inspection of boilers and pressure vessels,
and investigating and initiating the enforcement of violations as

Minimum Qualifications • Possess a valid National Board of Boiler
Inspectors (NBBI) commission or have the NBBI qualification points
to obtain the NB commission within six months of hire. • Regulatory
compliance with boiler and pressure vessel codes and/or
investigative experience interpreting, explaining, and applying
boiler and pressure vessel laws, regulations, codes and/or policies
to perspective regulated communities/stakeholders. • Experience
observing the operation of boilers and pressure vessels and the
documentation of findings and support of decisions. • Ability to
articulate verbally and in writing, non-compliance issues and
recommendations for continued operation of boilers and pressure
vessels. • Proficient computer skills. Additional Considerations •
Working knowledge of American Society of Mechanical Engineers
(ASME) Codes, and National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel
Inspector and State standards concerning design, construction,
installation, inspection, operation, maintenance, repair, and
alteration of boilers and pressure vessels; and various welding
processes and nondestructive testing methods. • Experience
involving design, construction, maintenance, repair, or operation
of boiler and pressure vessels. Special Requirements: • Possession
or ability to obtain a valid driver’s license within 30 days of
hire. • Ability to travel overnight occasionally. • Ability to
perform moderate physical activity that includes, but is not
limited to, climbing stairs and ladders, bending, walking up and
down inclines, and occasionally lifting and carrying loads up to 30
pounds. • The selected candidate must pass a criminal background
investigation and successfully serve a 12-month probationary period
effective from the date of employment if beginning employment as an
original hire or re-employment. Special Instructions: The salary
range for this position will vary based on the experience level of
the selected candidate, commensurate with experience, plus the
State's benefits package. Apprentice: $51,884 Journeyman: $62,732
The agency will not entertain salary negotiations for this
