Position Summary
Supervise personnel in the Valve Shop and ensure compliance with
all safety, quality, technical, and housekeeping standards. Direct
and coordinate all production efforts required to complete assigned
tasks. This includes communicating/scheduling with support
functions to allocate resources, coordinating with offsite project
personnel, and prioritizing tasking to meet schedule. Supervisor
must be able to Identify problems in the production flow and ensure
that necessary labor, material, or support is applied to relieve
the issue. Resolve technical questions and issues associated within
production responsibilities. Interface with customers to ensure
satisfaction. Frequent overtime may be required. Strong analytical
and personnel management skills required.
Duties & Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL
--- Comply to "Supervisors Standards" and guide personnel in the
performance of their duties.
--- Supervisory responsibilities include training employees,
planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance;
rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and
resolving problems.
--- Interface with customers to ensure complete satisfaction.
--- Schedule, prioritize and control production within your
production task/jobs to ensure that production deadlines are met,
and manpower is optimized.
--- Ensure economy and accountability in the expenditure of
man-hours and material.
--- Recommend and/or make improvements in equipment or production
methods.
--- Comply with safety procedures and regulations as required to
ensure safety of production personnel and equipment. Maintain
adherence to good housekeeping practices and safety guidelines in
accordance with OII-MSD safety policies.
--- Provide technical advice and interpretation of drawings,
schematics, MIL-STDs, SUBSAFE requirements, production processes,
etc., to production personnel.
--- Provide training in deployment of trades personnel. Ensure
personnel are properly prepared (e.g., required safety equipment,
manuals, drawings, material, tools, QA paperwork, etc.).
--- Ensure required production documentation is completed and filed
properly (e.g., Time Sheets, QA Inspection Documentation (OQE),
Material Purchase Order Requests, etc.).
--- Provide production status for all assignments to the PM/APM for
discussion at weekly meetings (e.g. Scheduling and Management).
--- Conduct performance evaluations of assigned personnel. Working
with HR and the Resource Dept., take proper and judicious
disciplinary measures and handle grievances when required.
--- Ensure all equipment issued to production personnel is safe and
properly maintained.
--- Ensure pre and post job briefs are held to discuss items of
concern. Ensure all departments are invited and direct any
department to attend if issues affect them.
--- Ensure all material is on hand prior to assigning tasks.
Comminate material issues to management/purchasing.
--- Review OII work packages (REC, CWP and FWP) prior assigning
tasks to ensure the full scope of work is identified for assigned
task and the required references are on hand.
--- Review/audit OII work packages (REC,TGI, OQE) at the completion
of work to ensure all requirements/ OQE are completed. Sign the
Re-Entry Control REC) and Maintenance Certification Record (MCR) as
required at the completion of production work.
--- Participate at assigned level with Fact Finding Critiques when
required to identify unsatisfactory work processes.
--- Be proficient and can understand technical requirements,
collect data from production personnel regarding deficiencies, and
disseminate a recommended corrective course of action to adjudicate
the deficiency.
--- Additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
REQUIRED
--- A.S. Mechanical or Foreman Naval and/or Commercial Shipyard
with extensive Apprenticeship Program; or High School/GED with
Apprenticeship Diploma and additional mechanical vocational
courses; or High School/GED with extensive military training and
experience in mechanical and/or electrical systems.
--- Ten years' experience in repair /restoration of SUBSAFE valves
and components may substitute for the A.S. degree.
--- Management/Supervisory experience in submarine
operation/repair.
--- Minimum eight (8) years of hands-on experience with repair and
maintenance of submarine hull, mechanical, electrical, electronic,
ordnance, torpedo room, VLS, submarine mast/antenna, periscope
and/or other sensor systems.
--- Four (4) years of specialized experience in performing
SUBSAFE/Level I material work.
--- Technical knowledge and experience with submarine and/or
surface combat weapons systems, launcher systems or other similar
Naval or military system.
--- Knowledge of the naval ship's systems repair organization and
procedures.
--- Must have the ability to communicate and interface effectively
with personnel within and outside the organization.
--- Must be able to obtain a U.S. DOD Secret Security
Clearance.
