A successful, growing company has an excellent opportunity for a motivated Plant / Operations manager to lead the next phase of our growth in our Portsmouth, VA recycling center. You must have prior experience as Head of Operations, Plant Manager, Operations Director or similar role in a manufacturing or production facility and have demonstrated success in building sustainable customer relationships. This role requires broad business knowledge as a successful individual will be responsible for managing the daily business operations to ensure our operations run smoothly, our people are productive, and we continue to grow with our customers. This role is a critical part of our management team and will be involved in continuing to build our growth strategy, as well as leading the implementation at the plant level.If you are a highly motivated Operations Manager interested in joining a growing company, we'd like to meet you.*Duties & Responsibilities: *The Plant Operations Manager will oversee all daily operations to ensure all policies and procedures are followed. They develop processes that will maximize stewardship, safety, quality, and productivity. The plant operations manager is responsible for completing the following tasks:* Hire, train, counsel and terminate employees as necessary to ensure coverage of our customers and plant needs. Training includes position - specific processes like loading trucks, meeting bale specifications, etc.* Hold employees accountable to tasks required of them and follow up to ensure plant productivity. Provide a clear sense of direction and focus to employees. Monitor operations and trigger corrective actions as needed.* Work with management team to track and measure productivity, monitor assets while minimizing unnecessary costs and maintaining current quality standards.* Responsibility for production output, product quality and on-time shipping.* Plan, organize, direct, and run day-to-day operations to exceed our customers' and company's expectations by allocating resources effectively (personnel and equipment) to produce optimal results.* Plan, organize, and direct maintenance tasks in conjunction with the regional maintenance manager to maintain productivity and maximize machine operational time.* Commit to and follow plant safety procedures including OSHA and DEQ guidelines (complete and submit required forms, etc.). Develop new procedures to prevent accidents and incidents.* Lead daily morning meetings, including conducting safety training (Lockout Tagout, etc.).* Conduct incident / accident investigations and complete / submit necessary paperwork.* Review equipment checklists daily to approve and forward to maintenance for scheduling work.* Address employees' issues or grievances and work towards positive resolutions.* Participate in weekly operations calls to share the latest production management best practices and concepts.* Maintain a flow of material from the plant, with the goal of having "zero" inventory (less than a truckload at any time).* Where applicable, maintain Driver employment files and vehicle files, as required by the Department of Transportation.* Maintain DEQ reports and SWPPP files as required.*Skills & Qualifications: ** Ability to create accountability and to lead by example* Strong team building, decision-making and people management skills* Proven managerial experience* Willing and able to learn how to operate plant equipment (loader, forklift).* Adequate knowledge of business and management principles (budgeting, strategic planning, resource allocation and human resources)* Be knowledgeable of safety, quality, productivity, demand creation, inventory, and stewardship processes* Computer literacy* College degree preferred but not required with equitable experience, BS degree in Business Management or related field a PLUS* Understand Lockout Tagout safety principles.* Experience in Recycling/Waste Management Industry a PLUS (familiarity with recycling standard equipment and technical expertise).* Lean Six Sigma Certification a plus.* MRF Operator License a plus, required after a year.*Physical Requirements and Work Environment*:The normal setting for this position is a physical environment, then include but are not limited to the following: weather extremes, noise, odors, general filth, etc.* Frequent required use of motor coordination using arms, legs, and fingers.* Frequent required use of physical effort in handling objects more than 20 pounds frequently.* Frequent standing, walking, climbing, pushing, pulling, bending, twisting, and lifting at least 20 pounds.PPE Required: standard PPE (Gloves and Glasses if working on machinery, when in the plant always have Steel Toe Shoes/Boots, High Visibility Shirt or Safety Vest with Reflective Piping and Long Pants)Job Safety Assessment (JSA): When in the facility, follow Job Safety Assessment guidelines for plant employees.* Be aware of fire extinguisher locations in the plant.* Have a strong awareness and knowledge of the facility's Emergency Management Plan.Job Type: Full-timePay: $50,000.00 - $100,000.00 per yearBenefits:* 401(k)* Dental insurance* Flexible schedule* Health insurance* Health savings account* Life insurance* Paid time off* Professional development assistance* Vision insuranceSchedule:* 10 hour shift* 8 hour shift
