Description POSITION TITLE: TRADESWORKER SENIOR ELECTRONICS
TECHNICIAN REPORTS TO: COORDINATOR OF OPERATIONS OVER-TIME STATUS:
NON-EXEMPT PAY GRADE: 418JOB SUMMARY: This is skilled manual and
technical work at the experienced level. An employee in this class,
with general supervision from an assigned supervisor, installs,
maintains, repairs, programs and performs upgrades of electronic
and electromechanical systems and equipment, including
microprocessor-controlled stored program systems of all types. The
employee is expected to engineer, and install electronic interface
and control circuits required to interconnect commercial security,
door access, camera/surveillance and closed circuit television,
fire alarm, telephone, public address communications, clocks,
bells, and scoreboard systems of various manufacturers without
significant vendor support. Performance is evaluated periodically.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Requires standing, walking, sitting, bending,
squatting, arm and hand movements, and climbing; Ability to carry
tools and lift and handle materials of 50 pounds; Ability to climb
up and down stairs with heavy loads, to load and unload materials;
Requires working at heights on aerial lifts, scaffolding,
stepladders and/or extension ladders; or to crawl in, under, over,
or through equipment; Requires working in confined spaces;
Knowledge of safety practices; Required to respond to calls after
regular working hours and on weekends and holidays, in accordance
with the needs of The Portsmouth Public School System Building
Services; Installs, repairs, programs, provides interfaces to and
tests electronic systems and equipment, including commercial
security, door access, closed circuit television, fire alarm,
telephone, public address communications, clocks, bells, and
scoreboard systems; Troubleshoots electronic equipment and
components as well as field wiring and system programming with
internal and/or computer terminal and system software required by
each system; Maintains and updates records; Provides accurate
written reports on system parameters and configurations, equipment
and materials used; Orders spare parts; Gives technical advice to
school staff on proper operation of these systems; Works with
contractors to identify and resolve system discrepancies; Installs
electronic equipment and cables in accordance with NEC standards
and all other applicable codes; Willingness to take emergency
call-outs; Performs other duties as assigned; Thorough knowledge of
tools, measuring and test equipment such as oscilloscopes,
volt/ohmmeters, transistor and capacitor tester, and personal
computer terminal emulators/system programmers; Extensive knowledge
of fire and security alarms, door access, closed circuit television
controls, devices, sensors, cameras, relays, speakers, drivers,
electronic telephones, and key service units, sound and public
address systems, including microphones and amplifiers, including
mechanical and electronically stored program DOS- and Window based
technologies; Ability to create, annotate, and read drawings,
sketches, wiring diagrams, schematics, program worksheets, manuals,
and other documentation and specifications; Ability to maintain
records of work assignments and materials used, communicate and
work with fellow workers, school administrators and staff; Familiar
with linear (resistor and capacitor); non-linear (transistor, logic
and diode) theory, parallel and series circuits, the application of
Ohms law and other electronic theory, and DOS/Windows modem/serial
communications protocol; Ability to climb and work from scaffolds,
ladders, catwalks, and aerial lifts, and to pass the physical
examination for this classification, including a color vision test
? Ability to communicate effectively with others and get along well
with fellow workers, administrators and pupils; Ability to safely
operate a motor vehicle. JOB SPECIFICATIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Serving as senior or lead trades worker in electronics, security
camera surveillance, fire/burglary security system, and PA system
trouble-shooting, maintenance and PM of current and future systems.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Any combination of education and
experience equivalent to graduation from high school and
considerable experience as a skilled tradesman. SPECIAL
REQUIREMENTS: Possession of an appropriate driver's license valid
