Portsmouth*.

*Qualifications*:
- Possess and maintain current certification and registration as a
Computed Tomography (CT) Technologist as determined by the American
Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
- Provide evidence of work experience as a full-time CT
technologist of at least 12 continuous months within the preceding
24 months, to include experience with digital imaging and
electronic Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS). -
Possess ARRT approved continuing medical education of at least 12
hours within the last 12 months.

*Core Duties*:
- Perform computerized axial tomography scans of the head, body and
extremities as well as more complex which include dedicated phasic
organ studies, coronary CTA (Computed Tomography Angiography),
perfusion, vascular CTA, multiplanar and 3D volume renderings, and
portable CTs for critical patients.
- Arrive, depart, and log completed patients in the command's
hospital information system (CHCS) and in the scanner log books.
Send appropriate image series to the radiologist for reading via
the PACS according to department protocol.
- Evaluate patients for contrast compatibility: renal function,
allergy history, contrasts contraindications. Ensure patients are
properly prepped with required contrast agents (oral, IV, rectal),
NPO status, and appropriate IV access per established CT
protocols.
- Evaluate critical and emergency procedures and determine patient
priorities. Work with the Emergency Department staff and inpatient
staff to accommodate and prioritize exams.
- Provide direct assistance and scans for invasive procedures
including drainages, biopsies, radiofrequency ablations, and
cryoablations.
- Recognize significance of all structures and acute pathology.
Bring critical findings to the attention of the radiologist prior
to discharging the patient.
- Recognize and report to the radiologist any symptoms which have a
direct impact on the patient's condition while in CT such as
adverse reaction to contrast media or IV infiltration. Recognize
the need for and initiate emergency measures for critical
situations such as respiratory or cardiac arrest.
- Receive and position patients in the CT scanner to ensure correct
visualization in the scanner's field of view.
- Explain procedure to patient and provide humane and appropriate
care and communication to alleviate patient's fear of
examination.
- Perform system warmups, calibrations and quality control tasks
according to manufacturer and command instructions. Recognize
artifacts and equipment errors and notify designated Government
personnel of outlying values.
- Initiate repair call procedures for equipment malfunctions by
notifying designated Government personnel. Report problems to the
Biomedical Repair Section and record the problem condition in the
trouble call logbook.
- Maintain CT suite including stocking supplies, cleaning, taking
out linen and sharps containers as needed. Perform daily checks of
the crash cart, and monthly checks of emergency contrast reaction
kits.
