Position Summary:

The Electronic Services Librarian manages the life cycle of electronic resources, including databases, e-books, streaming media, serials, etc. in order to maintain discoverability and accessibility, leads support for the information technology systems of the library, and provides instruction and assistance to the TCC community in the use of information resources in all formats. The Electronic Services Librarian reports to the Coordinator of Library Services.

Functional Responsibilities:

1. Manages the TCC Libraries' electronic resources by: 1) identifying, selecting, managing and evaluating electronic resources; 2) serving as the primary contact between the library and vendors, publishers, the VIVA consortium, and VCCS personnel regarding discovery and access to electronic resources; 3) coordinating the integration of electronic resources and services with the library's online discovery platforms; 4) collaborating with librarians, staff, and patrons to solve technical issues that affect discovery and access; 5) monitoring trends and best practices related to access and discovery in order to recommend improvements to resources and workflows.

2. Collaborates with faculty and librarians to promote the effective use of electronic resources and services within the College's curriculum. Maintains current knowledge of issues in electronic resources, copyright, licensing, intellectual property, and library information technology by reviewing professional literature and participating in professional meetings.

3. Collaborates with TCC, VCCS, vendor, and partner information technology personnel to provide ongoing support for a variety of library systems. Participates in the ongoing assessment and enhancement of existing technology as well as researches and recommends new library technology services, resources and tools. Develops and provides training for staff, faculty, and students on library technologies.

4. Collaborates with librarians and library management by: 1) facilitating access to electronic information resources; 2) facilitating online reference and instruction services in support of TCC's online programs and courses; 3) participating in the development and implementation of library web content standards; 4) leading in the implementation of new technologies; 5) working on technology projects with stakeholders across the TCC libraries; 6) participating in college-wide collection and instruction assessment activities.

5. Provides client services to students, faculty, staff, and community in using information resources by: 1) explaining the use of the library system, open educational resources, online databases, internet tools, printed materials, media, and other information resources; and 2) teaching library instruction/information literacy programs including individualized instruction, tours, general orientation sessions, and subject/course related classes.

6. Works closely with faculty on incorporating library resources in teaching materials by: 1) assessing library needs of individual academic pathways, disciplines, and programs through written and oral communication; 2) advising and teaching college faculty about library offerings so the college libraries meet the needs of individual programs; and 3) sharing pathway, discipline and program needs with library staff.

7. Works on special projects providing analyses and reports as requested. Actively participates in library planning and assessment activities and stays current on research technologies by keeping up with professional literature and attending professional library association meetings.

8. Miscellaneous duties include: 1) serving on college and state committees; 2) assisting in the training, supervision, and evaluation of classified and wage staff and student workers; 3) assisting staff with a variety of written assignments; 4) collecting statistics in preparing reports; 5) providing circulation services as needed.

Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA's/Required Qualifications

1. Experience managing electronic resources, including experience working with vendors, publishers, and library consortia.

2. Knowledge of current and emerging technologies and trends relevant to the provision of library services.

3. Knowledge of the use of technology for library applications.

4. Experience with an integrated library system or library services platform.

5. Experience providing excellent customer service.

6. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

7. Ability to work with diverse populations to include students, faculty, administrators, and patrons.

8. Ability to devise research strategies and to prepare subject guides, resource lists, handbooks, and other print and online materials to support the information needs of faculty and students.

9. Ability to assist other staff in the day-to-day operation and management of a library.

10. Ability to employ systematic planning and effective time management techniques.

11. Ability to work independently and collaboratively.

12. Master's degree from an ALA-accredited graduate program.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Experience using and instructing patrons on library information resources including electronic databases, print, and media preferred.

2. Experience conducting the reference interview process preferred.

3. Experience with assessment of library collections preferred.

4. Experience with marketing of library collections preferred.
