If the position isaccepted by the incumbent on the job, other application/resume ofnon-incumbents will not be reviewed. Summary:TheIntensive Care Unit RN PRN will provide highly specializednursing care to critically ill patients requiring close observation to detectsubtle changes in status. Use advanced assessment skills to identify patientcare problems, formulate patient care plans, and to revise patient care goalsand objectives according to changes in patient status. Duties andResponsibilities:Operateand monitor performance of sophisticated equipment used in the care ofcritically ill patients, including mechanical ventilation, hemodynamicmonitoring, intracranial pressure monitoring, pacemaker maintenance, andintra-aortic balloon pump therapy. Safely operate equipment for patientsrequiring Continuous Venous to Venous Hemofiltration. Continuously monitor anddocument patient responses. Interpret and respond to complex technological datagenerated by such equipment and collaborate with appropriate health care teammembers to coordinate care for critically ill patients. Administera wide variety of rapid-acting, highly potent medications, according to unitpolicies, procedures and protocols; monitor patient and document response;adjust therapy accordingly. Administerdrugs and monitor patients requiring Conscious Sedation for special procedures.Administerthrombolytics and antiplatelet drugs [Tissue Plasminogen Activator (TPA),ReoPro, Aggrastat, etc.] specific for patients with cardiac, pulmonary,peripheral vascular disease and cerebrovascular accident; monitor and documentpatient response; observe patient for complications. Transportand accompany critically ill patients for special procedures (computerized (orcomputed) tomography (CT), Angiography, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI),Nuclear Medicine), maintaining the same level of patient care and support asthough the patient was in the unit setting. Participatein discharge planning through collaboration with multidisciplinary health careteam members and family members to determine capabilities or obstacles towardsdelivery of care in a variety of extended care options. Planand coordinate patient care with other members of the health care team,including x-ray, pharmacy, laboratory, and physical therapy. Providetraining to professional staff when required and offer guidance to new staff asa preceptor and professional nursing expert. Maybe required to participate in multidisciplinary special projects or studiesthat impact on clinical nursing. Provide recommendations with regard toclinical practice based on current concepts, research and evidence basedpractice initiatives.Provideinput into the development of policies to the Department Head and/or DivisionOfficer. Beconscious of cost and effectiveness of materials, supplies, and equipment andmake recommendations for effective alternatives where they exist. Useclinical/administrative knowledge to function as a consultant to otherunits/clinic nursing personnel, medical and other members of health care teamand community health programs.Otherduties as assigned MinimumQualifications:(To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform eachessential duty satisfactorily.) Shall have a diploma, Associates or Bachelor---sdegree in nursing from an accredited college or University.Possessa minimum of eighteen (18) months of full-time experience within the pastthirty six (36) months working in a critical care setting.Possessand maintain certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS). BasicLife Support (BLS) Knowledge, Skillsand Abilities: Be able clearly and effectively communicatewith all patients and other healthcare providers.Possessknowledge of the pharmacology of most commonly used emergency drugs,anticipated results, usual dosages, and their location in the crash cart. Useknowledge of critical care ethical and legal issues to provide patient/familysupport during periods of physiologic, psychological, and social stress andfunctions as the primary liaison/advocate for the patient and family members. The employee is occasionally required to stand; climb orbalance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally liftand/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this jobinclude close vision. Work Environment: (Thework environment characteristics described here are representative of those anemployee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.)The employee will normally work ina temperature-controlled office environment, with frequent exposure toelectronic office equipment.During visits to areas ofoperations, may be exposed to extreme cold or hot weather conditions.
