Perform a full range of interventional angiography (invasive vascular) procedures on patients resulting in accurate diagnosis and/or optimal treatment while maintaining maximum patient safety and comfort.Perform/review a baseline patient assessment, evaluate patient response to diagnostic or interventional procedures.Provide assistance during interventional procedures to attending radiologists or surgeons. Provide direct assistance for invasive procedures including drainages, biopsies, radio frequency ablations, cryoablations and new interventional procedures established during the term of this task order. Be responsible for radiation protection of patients and personnel in accordance with command safety guidelines.Be proficient in the operation and maintenance of diagnostic and therapeutic equipment used for procedures.Arrive, depart, and log completed patients in the command's hospital information system (CHCS) and in the scanner log books. Send appropriate image series to the radiologist for reading via the PACS according to department protocol. Evaluate patients for contrast compatibility: renal function, allergy history, contrasts contraindications.Recognize and report to the radiologist any symptoms which have a direct bearing on the patient's condition while in Interventional Radiology or CT such as adverse reaction to contrast media or IV infiltration. Recognize the need for and initiate emergency measures for critical situations such as respiratory or cardiac arrest.Recognize the significance of all anatomical structures and acute pathology. Bring critical findings to the attention of the radiologist.Stock and maintain an adequate level of supplies required for various interventional examinations. Perform system calibrations and quality control tasks according to manufacturer and command instructions daily. Recognize artifacts and equipment errors and notify designated Government personnel of outlying values. Perform daily checks of the crash cart and monthly checks of emergency contrast reaction kits and restroom emergency call bells. Initiate repair call procedures for equipment malfunctions by notifying designated Government personnel.Report problems to the Biomedical Repair Section and record the problem condition in the trouble call log book.Radiographic Technologist - Interventional Vascular (Angiography) Job Qualifications:
BLS1 year full-time experience as a diagnostic radiologic technologist within the preceding two (2) years, to include experience with digital imaging. American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) approved continuing medical education of 12 hours within the last 12 months. Registration as a Radiological Technologist with American Registry of Radiologic Technologists(ARRT) with a subspecialty certification as a Vascular-Interventional Radiography(VI) technologist as determined by ARRT. American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) Vascular Interventional (VI) certification.Full time interventional vascular (angiography) technologist of at least 18 continuous months within the preceding 24 months, to include experience with digital imaging and electronic Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS).ARRT approved continuing medical education of at least 12 hours within the last 12 months.
