Job Description Overview: A healthcare facility near Greenville, North Carolina is seeking a Board-Certified General Surgeon to provide inpatient call coverage on a locum tenens basis. This role supports an established team and focuses on managing emergent surgical cases in a low- to moderate-volume setting. Coverage Dates: May 9, 2026 (7:00 AM) – May 13, 2026 (11:00 AM) May 22, 2026 (11:00 AM) – May 25, 2026 (11:00 AM) June 5, 2026 (11:00 AM) – June 8, 2026 (11:00 AM) September 4, 2026 (11:00 AM) – September 7, 2026 (11:00 AM) October 2, 2026 (11:00 AM) – October 5, 2026 (11:00 AM) November 25, 2026 (11:00 AM) – November 30, 2026 (11:00 AM) Position Details: Inpatient-only responsibilities Call coverage including nights and weekends Not required to remain on-site while on call No responsibility for responding to codes No ER backup coverage required Patient Volume: Average 7–8 patients per day 1–2 admissions per day and per night Approximately 50 surgical cases per month Procedures Required: Appendectomy Treatment of strangulated hernias Cholecystectomy Incision and drainage (I&D) procedures Other emergency general surgery cases Facility Overview: 100 bed acute care hospital Low-volume emergency department Small ICU unit Approximately 20,000 patient visits annually 24-hour rotational shifts Air and ground transport available for higher-acuity transfers Technology: Electronic Medical Record (EMR): EPIC Requirements: Board Certified in General Surgery Active medical license (or ability to obtain) Experience with emergency general surgery procedures
