MARYVIEW MEDICAL CENTER - HARBOUR VIEW CAMPUS POSITION SUMMARY The peri-operative nurse is responsible for maintaining continuity of care designed to meet individual patient needs through the nursing process involving assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation of patient care. The nurse assesses the physiological, psychosocial, cultural and age specific needs of patients throughout the peri-operative care process. An OR nurse's plan of care is designed to meet patient and procedure-based criteria identified through on-going assessment. The plan must be carried out in a timely manner. This position requires the ability to set priorities, in collaboration with other health team members, while directing, delegating, and supervising multiple patient care activities. Intra-operative nursing incorporates both technical and professional components of nursing practices such as peri-operative nurses, scrub, circulate, precept, manage and/or teach. As the patient advocate, all actions must demonstrate self-initiative, perseverance, and a strong surgical conscience. JOB REQUIREMENTS 1. Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing with current licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia. 2. BCLS trained. 3. 6 months medical/surgical nursing experience. 4. Minimum of 6 months previous Operating Room experience desired. 5. ACLS trained, or within 12 months of hire if employed by Harbour View An essential function of this position is to comply with BSHSI Policy(******.NUR.001)which requires, as a condition of employment, that all registered nurses with diplomas or associate degrees who apply and are hired after May 1, 2015 complete a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree within five years of start date.
