Pipefitter I, II, III Work Location: Chesapeake, VA FLSA Status:
Full-Time, Non-Exempt REQ26_01126F-1 Summary of duties Pipefitter
(levels I, II, III) with limited supervision, performs variety of
skilled mechanical duties involving general fitting piping systems
on vessels, burning/brazing, testing and sketching piping systems.
Operates equipment for assembly and installation; performs
preventative and predictive maintenance on facility machinery;
records work performed and follows specified safety policies and
procedures. May be assigned the duties and responsibilities of
other positions for which qualifications are met. Periodically
required to lift/move equipment up to and including 50 pounds.
Specific description of duties: Studies blueprints, sketches,
drawings, manuals, specifications or sample part, with minimal
supervision, to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished
work piece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements Ability
to work in a shop setting as well as onboard a ship. Ability to
work in tight and/or confined spaces. Verifies conformance of
finished work piece to specifications Know the basic tools required
and their uses Identification of piping by class, schedule, size,
and the systems in which they are used. Know types of bevels,
backing rings, consumable inserts (E/B ring), open roots, saddles,
and miters. Layout, fabricate, assemble, install and maintain
piping, piping systems, fixtures and equipment. Works with steam,
water, air, fuel, lube oil, sea water, and various chemicals.
Develops specifications from general description and draws sketch
of part or product to be fabricated Ensures proper care in the use
and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous
improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices
Experience with SMAW and GTAW for tacking purposes of piping,
hangers, brackets, and other items to support on-site
installations. Assembles piping by means of welding, brazing,
soldering, threading, lock ringing and bolting. Cuts and bores
holes in structures, decks, bulkheads, and walls by use of torch,
handheld, or other power tools. Maintains cleanliness of the work
area Responsible for training/oversite of junior personnel Overtime
is routinely required but not guaranteed Travel outside the local
area may be required Perform any other assignments or tasks as
needed or requested by management to assist in accomplishing the
organizations mission, objectives and goals. Including the periodic
oversight of junior less skilled Welders as applicable.
Education/Specialized Training: Level I: HS diploma or GED may be
required depending on varying contract stipulations Apprenticeship
or Welding trade school with six months practical experience or one
year of practical relatable experience Level II: HS diploma or GED
may be required depending on varying contract stipulations
Apprenticeship or applicable trade school with three years, or four
years practical related experience Level III: HS diploma or GED may
be required depending on varying contract stipulations
Apprenticeship or applicable trade school with six years practical
experience, or 8 years related experience. Certification/Licenses
(as required for the task being performed) Certificate
documentation required for listed education Certification
documentation in areas of expertise Fire watch certification
Security Clearance: Clearance up to secret level may be required.
Physical/Environmental Job Requirements: Lifting/moving up to and
including 50 pounds Routinely climbing several flights of stairs
Performing tasks in confined spaces Our work is primarily onboard
naval vessels that may include variables of physical activity, i.e.
stooping, climbing, walking, etc. In performing these duties, you
may be required to work outdoors. You will experience temperature
variations, extremely loud noises and other physical hazards.
