– Friday Work Hours : 7:45AM – 4:00PM; occasional evenings and
weekends Employment Term : 10 months Northeast Academy for
Aerospace and Advanced Technologies is a public regional STEM
school located in a newly renovated, 62,000 sq ft facility in the
heart of Elizabeth City, less than an hour drive from the beautiful
Outer Banks and the metropolitan Tidewater Virginia area. Our
coaches facilitate learning through hands-on, project and problem
based instruction thoughtfully designed to challenge students. We
encourage and support each other to think differently, creatively,
and purposefully about teaching and learning, keeping with the idea
that we’re all teachers, we’re all learners, and we all have
potential for high intellectual and professional growth throughout
our lives. Position Purpose Coaches (teachers) at NEAAAT
demonstrate a commitment to ensure that every student graduates
from high school ready for college, careers, and life. Through
rigorous teaching and learning based on a common instructional
framework, Coaching and Learning the NEAAAT Way , and a set of
common core values that include teamwork, inclusiveness, challenge,
professionalism, innovation, and service, educators at NEAAAT
partner with students to foster a culture of collaborative
learning. Instructional coaches strive to provide students with the
STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) knowledge,
skills, and dispositions that will enable them to participate fully
in a technologically-rich, contemporary society. Our team is
positive, enthusiastic, and proactive, with a demonstrated passion
for working with middle and high school age students. Essential
Duties and Responsibilities Plan, prepare, and deliver rigorous e
nga g ing les sons in ways that build upon individual strengths and
offer students maximum opportunities to participate in the planning
and direction of their own learning experience Engage all s tudent
s in learning u s ing a contextual project based instructional
format Lead students to develop soft skills, including critical
thinking, problem solving, communication, and collaboration skills
Utilize technology to facilitate instruction and maximize student
learning Employ a variety of assessment tools and strategies to
measure student progress toward learning, college and career goals
Identify and select different instruction al resources and methods
to meet students' varying n eeds Counsel students through service
as an Advisor in the Advisory Program Promote high e xpec t a tion
s and the skills needed for success beyond high school Commun icat
e necessary information regularly to students, colleagues and
parents regarding s tudent progress and stude nt needs Promote
family support of students’ learning experience within the context
of multicultural understanding and competencies Promote and enhance
the instructional program by leveraging home, school, and community
partnerships to address barriers to learning and achievement
Develop and provide training and educational programs that address
the goals and mission of the educational institution Demonstrate
personal commitment to professional growth through participation in
professional learning activities Contributes as a member of a high
performing team Performs other duties as assigned and as necessary
to fulfill the day-to-day needs of the school Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Strong academic foundation with the
ability to inte gra t e STEM across content areas Understanding of
the emotional and social development of children and the influences
of family, community, and cultural differences on student success
Familiarity with current trends and leading innovations in
education Ability to work effectively in a collegial, team-centered
environment Intrinsically motivated and dedicated to continuous
professional and personal growth Ability to effectively engage
parents and community in the learning process Represents the school
positively in the community. Excellent organizational skills and
communication skills, both written and oral Understands the
critical nature of building positive working relationships with
students, parents and colleagues Effective in integrating
technology into the classroom to enhance learning Education,
Training, Experience Bachelor’s degree in education or related
field; Master’s degree or higher preferred Minimum of three years
experience as a middle or high school teacher preferred
Certification and License Requirements Open to experienced
educators or Career changers with relevant math/STEM backgrounds.
NC Professional Educator’s License preferred, but not required.
