Department of Psychology in the College of Liberal Arts at Norfolk
State University invites applications for multiple tenure-track
9-month Assistant or Associate Professors to begin fall 2026. We
are seeking dynamic and innovative individuals with a strong
commitment to excellence in research, teaching, and training of
doctoral students. The ideal candidate will contribute to our
department’s mission by advancing knowledge in psychology,
mentoring graduate students, and teaching graduate and
undergraduate-level courses. Additional clinically focused
responsibilities may be possible, and some support for licensure as
a Clinical Psychologist in the state of Virginia may be available
for the individual(s) hired. Commit to serving as a role model who
actively engages with the students, Department, University and
community at large to contribute to upholding a standard of
excellence for our NSU Spartan Community. We are particularly
interested in candidates who maintain a vested interest in
fostering an inclusive, collaborative, and supportive environment

Responsibilities The successful candidates must be able to teach
and mentor students in the PhD program in Clinical Psychology, have
a demonstrated record or strong potential of developing and
maintaining an active and independent research program in
psychology, teach doctoral, master’s and undergraduate psychology
courses as assigned by the department chair, supervise and mentor
graduate and undergraduate students in research and clinical
training, chairing and serving on theses/dissertation committees,
contribute to the academic development and success of the
Department and University, participate in Departmental, College,
and University service activities, and foster an inclusive,
collaborative, and supportive environment for students and
colleagues. Minimum Qualifications 1. Ph.D. or Psy.D. in Clinical
Psychology or a closely related field in psychology (e.g.,
Cognitive, Biological, Affective, Developmental). 2. Expertise in
one or more areas of clinical psychology or related areas of
psychology (e.g., assessment, psychotherapy, mental health,
clinical interventions, quantitative research, cognition, affect,
etc.). 3. Ability to supervise and mentor graduate students in
research and clinical training. 4. Demonstrate strong evidence of
research. Additional Considerations 1. Evidence of teaching
experience at the graduate and undergraduate levels. 2. Potential
for developing an independent and externally funded research
program. 3. Experience with interdisciplinary collaborations. 4.
Specialization in areas closely related to clinical psychology and
communities that have traditionally been underserved. 5. Experience
in graduate teaching of psychology courses in developmental,
affective, personality assessment, biological/cognitive bases of
behavior and/or empirically supported therapies. 6. For clinical
faculty, licensed or license-eligible in Virginia (commitment to
completing this requirement within 1 year of hire needed but not
