Job Description Job Description Degree in American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreting, certified ASL Interpreter credentials, and 1 year of experience as an ASL Interpreter in educational settings. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered. A school district in the Virginia Beach area is seeking two skilled Sign Language Interpreters to support elementary-level students for the current school year. This full-time, contract position requires a commitment from January 5 through June 16, serving an elementary age group with a daily schedule from 7:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Responsibilities: Provide clear and accurate sign language interpretation to support students communication needs in the classroom setting. Collaborate effectively with teachers, staff, and families to facilitate an inclusive learning environment. Adapt interpreting services to meet individual student requirements across various subjects and activities. Maintain confidentiality and adhere to all applicable ethical guidelines and district standards. Qualifications: Valid Virginia Quality Assurance Screening (VQAS) Level III certification is required. Preferred Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) score of 3.5 or higher; candidates with scores above 3.0 or a QAS Score of 3.0 or better will also be considered. Experience working with elementary school-aged children preferred. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Location: Virginia Beach area within Chesapeake Public Schools. Additional Information: This position is on-site only; no remote or hybrid arrangements are available. Contract duration is through the end of the current school year with potential renewal for the following year. Hours are approximately 30 hours per week.
