Job Description:

Duties * Audit retrospectively for accuracy of diagnosis, evaluation and management, procedure codes and documentation. * Perform encounter audits, which will be the primary monitoring tool used to identify operational and regulatory issues, to monitor performance and ensure lasting improvement. * Prepare reports of findings and recommends staff education and training on accurate coding practices and compliance issues. * Maintain a thorough understanding of anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, disease processes and surgical techniques through participation in continuing education programs. * Develop programs and plans for orienting and training medical and ancillary services staff in basic coding techniques and requirements. * Train individual providers and make suggestions for documentation improvements. * Maintain rosters for one-on-one and/or group training sessions. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes analyze the patient medical records to identify inaccurately coded services in accordance with federal coding regulations and guidelines and prepare and/or perform medical facility auditing analysis. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
